Post subject: Help with making a server. PostPosted: Sat Jun 26, 2010 6:42 pm
So, i just recently bought the game and i'm wanting to create a server for me and my friend to play on, however, whenever i try to make a normal server (just by clicking create battle in game, the person i want to play with cant find it/ join it, etc. Doesnt seem to show up in the server list ether). I was looking into making a dedicated server also, as i figured maybe that would show up in the server list seeing as normal servers dont seem to show up at all, but the starport account creation thing refuses to send an account verification email to my email adresses for some reason (i click on it to send the email = never get the email, not in spam, not in inbox, ive tried with multiple email accounts, im pretty sure it just doesnt send the email, like maybe the website is broken at the moment or something.... ) .... anywho i bought two copies of the game purely to play it with my one friend on our own server so any help anyone can give me with this would be very much appreciated.

In short -> Is there anyway to create a server that my friend can find and play on with me....? So far all my attempts have failed.

Ty.

Wow, someone actually trying to host games!

Hosting isn't very complicated... just tedious.
First: Read this. http://wiki.hyperbol.com/moin.cgi/DedicatedServerGuide
When you are done, read it again! Razz

Most questions are answered there. If need anything else, ask in to forum, and be patient: this forum isn't quite as active as it once was.

The dedicated server guide linked above shows you how to host a true, official dedicated server (earning credits and exp on it) If all you want to do is just play with a friend, you should be able to do that (unofficially) by just going into starport in the game and choosing the "create game" option. Games created there appear in Starport's server list and people can immediately join. You can also add a password if you'd like.

The only gotcha here is if you're behind a router or firewall, you will need to change your router / firewall's configuration to allow traffic to the port you choose, to get to you (else nobody will be able to connect). The port will be listed on the screen where you create the server (And you can change it if you'd like). Each type of router does it slightly differently, but its just Port Forwarding or Opening a Port. It involves telling the router that all packets coming in trying to get to a certain port, are forwarded to a specific computer. (In most routers, you type in the internal ip address of the computer you want those packets to go to).

Okay, I just tried it and it aint working for me either.

I've notified KungFuMonkey (the admin of starport) and I'm sure he can figure it out. Its very odd, since this forum sits on the same webserver as the site does (I think?) and I do get mails from this forum.

We had to pull everything apart to put it back together again and we finally have email working again. Sorry it took so long. :(
