Our ports aren't going to be randomized. We don't run those game servers - random people do. Anyone can. Its up to them to pick a port. If they pick random ports, then that app won't work anymore, but if they stick with the defaults, then it will...

and as I said. It will suck hugely if TS:HB gets supported by a game hosting company. They almost always use random ports for games. (I used to have a TS:HB hosted with a game company that used port 11951, for example)

There really isn't any use in making a fuss about that right now, guys.

The listing is open source anyway and can be installed on any server supporting PHP and Python. The port randomness is really something that wouldn't be a problem to fix is we have to.
The port list is provided by the host, and we can simply open those, for the server that go with the whitelisting protocol. In the worst case, the host could also host the server list itself, in addition to the game servers...
In the REALLY worst case scenario, the XML could be generated by a third party computer, pushed on a FTP and the list could parse the whole thing, without any port problems.

But since we're not there yet, and since there's already a solution available, I'm not anxious about that at all.

The entire source code to the python script to not only query the hosts but also ping them and get details is up on the WIKI anyway, in the editing/modding protocol section. Anyone with python can run it on their server or their home computer, or whatever. It even uploads the results as XML onto a FTP of your choice if so desired.

The whole 'having to open ports' thing is just because the specific service provider that Hyrkali is running his service from blocks ports unless specifically opened, doesn't really have anything to do with hyperbol itself. Hyperbol can be run on any port.

I haven't done anything nor watched the "list" for a while, so I'm wondering: is everything still working? :D

Also: Any ideas for improvements?
